This is your HelpSpot for MMTA Piano Exams

Our mission is to nurture the developing musician through programs that will encourage and inspire.

The Minnesota Music Teachers Association (MMTA) comprehensive piano syllabus and examinations exist to develop proficiency and musicianship through twelve levels of curriculum.  The curriculum includes keyboard skills, sightplaying, repertoire, and the ability to verbalize an understanding of the music the student performs.

The first edition of the piano syllabus was published in 1970, and revised editions were issued in 1978, 1981, 1989, 2001, and 2010.

Thousands of Minnesota students have used the syllabus and its examinations since its inception.  It is a thorough and rigorous curriculum, balancing structure and flexibility, beneficial to students and teachers.

Do you have questions about how to get started using the syllabus?  Do you wonder how to use it effectively with students of diverse gifts and abilities?  Do you want ideas for planning repertoire and skills study throughout the school year?

If you have questions about the syllabus, this is your HelpSpot.  We will feature teaching tips, tried and true approaches, new articles and helpful articles that have been previously published in the MMTA Newsletter.
